Bhakra Dam

Bhakra Dam is built on sutlej river in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. Its also known as Bhakra Nangal Dam. The construction of the dam is started by the Lieutenant governor of Punjab named as Sir Louis Dane in the year of 1948. The dam was completed in the year of 1963. In the world it is the largest gravity dam. Govindsagar Reservoir is also created by this dam, which is 3rd largest reservoir in the country. It was also a part of Bhakra Nangal Project, which aims of the project to provide hydro electricity and prevent floods in Sutluj-Beas. The total length of the dam is 1700 feet and width is 30 feet. In India, it is the second largest dam after Tehri Dam. It is a charming place and it attracts the tourists so much.
