Baijnath Temple

Baijnath Temple is lie on the Mandi - Pathankot national highway. The place Baijnath become well known after establishment of this temple. This temple belongs to Lord Shiva. The temple shows the culture of north Indian Temples. The entrance of the temple has large square Mandapa and two balconies in front side. There is a small idol of Nandi situated in the temple. The whole temple is covered with high walls. This temple is the main attraction of Baijnath. Kangra, Palampur, Joginder Nagar are the neighboring towns. According to legend, everyone believes that during the Treta Yug, the Ravana worshiped Lord shiva in Kailash and in Havan Kund offered his ten heads. The Lord Shiva influenced by Ravana and restored his heads. Shiva offers him the powers of immortality and invincibility. After this Ravana requested Shiva to come along with him to Lanka. Shiva accepted his request and converted himself into a Shivling. The Lord Shiva warned him to not to place the Shivling down on the earth all way. The Ravana started moving to Lanka and reached at the Baijnath, Ravana tired very much. He saw a shepherd and handed over the Shivling to him and went away for a while to take relief. The Shivling was very heavy and shepherd put the Shivling on the earth. After putting the Shivling on the earth, the Shivling established there in the form of Ardhnarishwar.
