About Chamba
Chamba
is one of the ancient towns in Himachal Pradesh. The town is located
on the banks of the Ravi river. The town is bordered by Jammu and
Kashmir, Ladakh, Kangra. During the ancient time, this town was ruled
by the Maru dynasty ruling from Bharmour. During the time period of
1920, Raja Sahil Varman made Chamba as a capital and as the request
of his daughter (Champavati), the king setup the name of Chamba. The
Chamba was ruled by approximately 67 kings. The town has various
temples, palaces and every year two major fairs held named as Minjar
Mela and Suhi Mata Mela. The town is also well known for
its crafts and arts or specially for its Pahari Painting. Manimahesh is one of the famous area in chamba district.
